Chillingham now plastic bag free!

Chillingham is the first official plastic bag free village in Northern NSW. It was
declared plastic bag free in the last week of May 2010 when stores and market
organisers joined forces with Tweed Shire Council to rid the village of single use
plastic check-out bags. Eliminating single use plastic check-out bags compliments
the communities efforts to improve village sustainability and is just another step
in Chillingham's journey to create an environmentally responsible and economically
resilient community.

So remember to bring your shopping bags along to the next Chillingham Village Market.

What's happening near the Community Centre?

Tweed Shire Council is finally putting in our oval. The Tweed Shire Council and Chillingham Community Association obtained a grant from the Commonwealth Government Regional Solutions program to facilitate this work. At long last our schoolkids and others will have an oval for their sporting activities. The Community Association is thinking of holding an opening day of activities as soon as the oval is ready to be used. We hope to get the school, pre-school and all the local community involved. One suggestion has been to challenge the "Old-timers" (born and bred locals) to a social cricket match with the hope that this will become an annual event. Let us know how you would like to celebrate this occasion by emailing or phoning the centre. We'll let you know when the oval will be ready for this event later in the year.

BBQ to launch Buildings and Grounds team

The new Buildings and Grounds team with John P at the helm had their first meeting today over a nice BBQ lunch and decided on a program of activities that will get the Community Centre in top shape over the next 12 months. If you want to get involved come along on a Thursday and talk to any of the team.

John is back!!

Our inaugural life member (John P) will be back at the centre on Thursday each week to help us progress a number of important projects. John will be supervising outdoor work at the centre and getting things moving. We've already had a number of offers to help John with these projects and if you would like to help, contact the centre or just turn up on a Thursday morning and have a chat to John over a  cup of tea or coffee, you'll be most welcome.

CCA committee

Two replacement members were elected to the CCA committee at its latest meeting held on 2 May, 2009. All members of the new committee are committed to working hard to see the Community  Association progress its agenda.
