CYCO's Activities 2008

Its been an great years for the CYCO's. They have grown to incorporate the young women in
Chillingham and its been great having them on board. They have been doing some incredible community
work in their village and beyond. Please find a list of their achievements below:-

1.  The Chillout Festival 2008.

This was a great success.  Over 200 people came to this event.  The hard work and dedication that
the youth committee put into this event, paid off. They organisedthis event like professional,
responsible and community minded young people. We were grateful of the full support of the
Chillingham Community Association. They did the food at this event and it was a great way to
support us. The bands that played at this event were diverse and very talented.  It was lovely to
see Murwillumbah's Youth Bands showcased. We so look forward to Chillout 09 which will be on Sunday
5th April.

2. Seniors Week 2008

A group of young boys from the CYCO's went to the Seniors Expo 2008 and ran workshops to teach our
elders how to operate a mobile phone. They all thoroughly enjoyed the day and interacting
beautifully with our very precious elders.

3.  The Red Cross Youth Forum
This was a duel event where the CYCO's went and spoke to a variety of primary schoolchildren from
around the area at Twins Towns up at Tweed Heads and the Hot Chilli Drummers did a performance.
It was really amazing to hear the boys speak about how being involved in the community was something
that they really enjoyed and they spoke about how it has made their lives richer in many way. They
also spoke about how many resources there are for young people and urged the children "its never to
early to start".

4.  A Handmade Christmas

This event was organised by Michelle Adams to showcase the amazingly talented arts and crafts that
we have around the Chillingham Area. It was also about bringing it back to the thought of Xmas and
not the materialism. It was a great day and wonderfully organised. The CYCO's helped in the kitchen
and sold food and had a BBQ/sausage sizzle. They made around $900. This was towards a school holiday
excursion, which they are taking on 23rd January and all of the CYCO's are going to Screamworld.
They will be stopping at Hungry Jacks on the way up for dinner and then onto Screamworld.  A big
thank you goes to Margaret Strong and Tweed Shire Council for paying for the 43 seater bus to get us
up there.

5. CYCO's Xmas Party
This was held on the 18th December at Buck's Barn in Chillingham.  The Hot Chilli Drummers peformed.
Margaret Strong from Tweed Shire Council provideda BBQ dinner for the event to which we are grateful
for. We are also grateful to Anne and Gerard from the Chillingham Banana Cabana.  They are so
amazing donating this amazing space to community events and groups.  A big thank you to them.

6. The Foundation for Young Australians
For your eyes only - Film Competition
The CYCO's did a film about living in Chillingham.  They entered it into the above competition and
they won a $3000 grant.  The grant was put in for the money to be used to fund a skate park on the
sports oval at the Chillingham Community Centre. The film was also shown up at the Red Cross Youth
Forum and it was explained that they had won $3000 for their community project and I am sure this
inspired the children at this event.  We are very proud of the young people who made and entered
this film. They did an amazing job. Congratulations.  Please find a link to this film on Youtube
below.

7. Yohana Majur's Holiday Visit
We first met Yohana at a cultrural exchange program at Wollumbin High School. He stayed with Fi
for a week. He and many from CYCO's group just liked each other from the moment they met. The
CYCO's paid for an airline ticket for Yohana so he could come up in the school holidays and
spend a week with us again.  This week was full of circus workshops, creek swimming, bonfires,
movies, bushwalking and much more. Yohana is officially part of our CYCO family and we hope to
get him up again very soon.

CYCO's Activities 2009

1.  The Chillout Festival 2009
The Chillout Festival was planned for Sunday 5th April, the last day of Youth Week. Unfortunately
the weather, especially in Chillingham was not on ourside.  There was flash flooding in
Chillingham and surrounding areas and on Friday 3rd April the Chillout Festival was postponed
until Sunday 19th April. The Chillout Festival is in its 3rd year and was organised by the CYCO’s
of Chillingham – Chillingham Youth Committee Organisers. This dedicated group of Chillingham young
people have got organising events down to a tee. They met weekly from early February at the
Chillingham Community Centre every Thursday. This years festival had a wonderful turnout and again
had the priviledge of showcasing the amazing youth bands of the region. There were many activities
including Laser Skirmish, Hot Dog Eating Competitions, Pop the balloon comp, which went over very
well.
Another success for the CYCO's.
Bands that performed were:-
Keegan Craven & Lachlan Bambach
Jonathan Harvey
Ill-Nation
Hot Chilli Drummers
Six Minutes to Midnight
StoneMason
A professional DVD is in the process of being completed and will be out soon. Will keep you
postered on that.

2.  Producing, Recording and Peforming a Song

Sue McKenna and Jake Mann from Kitnkaboodle Productions have been working with the CYCO's to
write, sing, produce and record a song for the Ukitopia Youth Arts Weekend on the 16th May
at the Uki Sports Grounds - Uki. The CYCO's will be on at Main Stage at 1.50pm - 2pm.  We
give many thanks to Sue & Jake for givng us this amazing opportunity.
